An opportunity for Humanists to help

Humanists of Houston is proud to be participating in The Houston Area Women's Center Leadership Campaign, bringing together Houston's top corporate and community leaders to publicly call for an end to domestic violence. Our goal is to raise $1000 by September 30 2012.

Funds raised through the campaign directly support the Women's Center Emergency Shelter, a 120-bed haven that offers women and children fleeing violent homes a safe place to sleep, counseling, career development, early childhood education, an onsite HISD school, parenting classes, nutritious meals, and access to a wide-range of resources to help them rebuild their lives.

In Humanist Manifesto III, it states
Humans are social by nature and find meaning in relationships. Humanists long for and strive toward a world of mutual care and concern, free of cruelty and its consequences, where differences are resolved cooperatively without resorting to violence.

Working to benefit society maximizes individual happiness. Progressive cultures have worked to free humanity from the brutalities of mere survival and to reduce suffering, improve society, and develop global community.

There are hundreds of people with whom Humanists of Houston communicates via e-mail or on the meetup site. If everyone of those people contributed $5 Humanists of Houston could easily reach their goal of contributing $1000 to the Houston Area Women's Center Leadership Campaign. If you can donate $5, please don’t wait on someone else to do so.

You can use Paypal to send your donation to humanistsofhouston@yahoo.com

If you prefer to send a check, please contact us at humanistsofhouston@yahoo.com for a mailing address.

Thanks for helping the Houston Area Women's Center!
